About the Position of Head of School, Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations

A Head of School is expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing leadership and in fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development in the academic disciplines within the School, the University and the wider community.

A Head of School is responsible to the Executive Dean of the Business School for leadership of the School in relation to the mission and goals of the University and is expected to assume a primary role in the University’s dealings with external organizations representing the academic, professional or occupational areas in which the School makes a major contribution. A Head of School would be expected to undertake an appropriate teaching and/or research role.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The appointment will be for an initial term of 5 years with the possibility of extension. The Head of School may also be appointed a Professor of the University. New Professors at QUT are eligible for a $AUD25 000 grant to use on work related expenses.

Overview:

The Department of Marketing is one of six departments in the Griffith Business School, which is an established, fast growing business school in Brisbane and the Gold Coast – the most rapidly expanding area in Australia. The Griffith Business School is accredited with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) – International.

The Department of Marketing is renowned for its innovation, and is continuously evolving to provide the highest calibre of marketing programs. The Department is committed to building a strong and dynamic research profile and has achieved significant research outcomes in both applied research and academic research. Our research staff consistently succeed in receiving awards and funding from Australian Research Council grants and other industry-based research funds.

This is a full time, fixed term appointment for five years as Head of Department, with a substantive continuing position as Professor (Level E). The position will be based at Nathan campus, Queensland, Australia.

The role:

The Head of Department is a key leadership role within the University, and reports to the Dean (Academic) of Griffith Business School. The Head is responsible for the strategic and operational performance of the Department in teaching and learning, research and external engagement; and for planning and aligning financial and staff resources with the University’s strategic objectives.

In addition the successful applicant will convene programs and courses and contribute to curriculum development, be engaged in the supervision of RHD students, contribute to the administration and management of the Department and School, obtain funding from national and international research funding bodies and conduct research in a professional and ethical manner.

The person:
The successful applicant will have a PhD in Marketing or a closely related field and a demonstrated track record of success in teaching at a tertiary level and in the supervision of postgraduate research students. In addition, the successful candidate will have an outstanding scholarly productivity as evidenced by grants, publications, research supervision, or other performance indicators;
